Do I need to service my watch?
Most people may not know but a timepiece requires frequent servicing in order to ensure its accuracy, functionality and longevity. Just as one would need to service their car, the mechanical parts of a watch require inspection, maintenance and occasionally, replacement of 1 or many parts. Here are some of the reasons why:
Battery replacement: Quarts watches require battery replacements once the cell is depleted. This should be done regularly to prevent corrosion of the battery and potential damage to the internal components of the watch. If the watch battery has been replaced and the timepiece is still not working or is ‘losing time’ then it may be time to book your device in for a service.
Lubrication & cleaning: The various moving parts within a watch requires adequate lubrication to prevent friction and subsequent wear. Dust and dirt accumulate inside of the watch and can hinder its performance. Longevity of the timepiece is improved through frequent servicing.
Gasket replacement: & testing waterproof watches occasionally need new gaskets to maintain their water resistance. Testing water resistance allows surety that all components of water resistance are in order and true to the timepieces declared resistance.
Mechanical maintenance: Mechanical watches require regular inspection and maintenance to ensure smooth running of intricate mechanisms. Component replacement may be necessary depending on the age, wear and damage of the watch.
Prevents damage: frequent servicing allows for the maintenance and replacement of worn or damaged parts to ensure they do not cause further damage or wear.
What is watch servicing
At Cajees time zone stores you will find skilled and friendly staff that are able to assist you with basic watch maintenance while you wait, such as replacing your watch strap and fitting a new battery (for the brands we carry in-store). Basic maintenance/ repairs may be done while you wait depending on the service required and the workshop queue on that day.
For more complex watch repairs and servicing, our staff will advise and assist you with booking in your watch to our Repair Workshop. Should you request your device only be handled by the manufacturer, we can assist with booking this repair into the agent if they are an associated partner of Cajees Timezone. The manufacturer will then confirm pricing of the repair, directly with Cajees Time zone and we will contact you for the go-ahead on the finalised price. Should you reject the manufacturers quote, you will be liable for a non-refundable handling fee of R250.
For in House watch repairs, you will be quoted upfront and a 50% deposit of the initial quotation will be required upfront. However, Once your timepiece had been booked in and inspected in our workshop, you will be contacted to confirm the price of your repair and your written approval will be required to proceed should there be any adjustments to the price quoted. Should you reject the new quotation, a R250 quote rejection fee will be payable.
